Few places in Europe let you land by the Mediterranean and stand on a ski slope less than two hours later. From Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, three resorts of the Alpes-Maritimes are within reach: Valberg, Isola 2000 and Auron. You can spend a week in a chalet, or ski for the day and be back on the Promenade des Anglais for dinner. Here is how long each drive really takes, what the mountain roads are like in winter, and how to get there — by private transfer, ski bus or rental car.
The three resorts at a glance
| From Nice Airport | Distance | Drive time (normal conditions) | Private transfer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valberg | ~85 km | 1 h 30 – 1 h 45 | from €220 per car |
| Isola 2000 | ~95 km | 1 h 45 – 2 h | from €220 per car |
| Auron | ~100 km | 1 h 50 – 2 h | from €220 per car |
In winter conditions and on busy weekends, allow an extra 15 to 30 minutes. Prices are per vehicle, one way, all-inclusive: tolls, winter tyres and chains, flight tracking and one hour of free waiting at the airport.

Valberg — the closest, ideal for families
The nearest of the three, about 85 km from the airport. The road follows the Var valley inland, then climbs either through the red-rock Cians gorges to Beuil or via Guillaumes — our drivers choose depending on the day. A friendly, sunny resort with gentle slopes, perfect for families and first days on skis, and the easiest same-day return to the coast. Van from €270.

Isola 2000 — the highest, the most snow-sure
About 95 km from Nice, up the Var and then the Tinée valley past Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée and Isola village. The last 17 km are pure hairpins: the road leaves the valley floor and climbs fast to the purpose-built resort at 2,000 metres. The altitude means reliable snow from early in the season and wide, open slopes. Van from €290.
Auron — the most charming village
At the head of the Tinée valley, above Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, about 100 km from the airport. The valley road is long and winding rather than difficult, with shaded sections that can stay icy in the morning. Auron rewards the drive with a real mountain village, varied skiing and good restaurants on and off the slopes. Van from €290.
Getting there without a private driver
- Ski bus from Nice: seasonal "Ski Express" coaches run from Nice to Isola 2000 and Auron (around €14 return, tickets online by noon the day before), and a Zou! bus serves Valberg (around €2.50 one way). Count about two hours, fixed departure and return times, and your skis on your lap or in the hold — check the 2026/27 timetables before you go.
- Rental car: from 1 November to 31 March the Loi Montagne requires winter tyres or chains on board in these mountains. Parking at the resorts fills up on sunny weekends and holidays.

A day, a week or a month — your plans, your driver
We drive our clients to the mountains exactly the way they want: a one-way transfer to a hotel or chalet for the week; a day on the slopes with the driver waiting and the return in the late afternoon; a lunch on a sunny terrace or a dinner in a mountain restaurant; a morning of photos in the snow for those who just want to see the Alps up close. For a day trip, book a driver by the hour: the car and chauffeur stay at your disposal and take you wherever you decide — and your skis travel in the same vehicle, door to door.
